Auckland is hilly but manageable - great waterfront, friendly culture, and excellent family infrastructure.
Planning your trip?
Auckland is built on volcanic hills, so some areas are steep, but the waterfront, parks, and modern suburbs are excellent for strollers. The Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter are flat and family-friendly. New Zealand culture is very outdoorsy and welcoming to families. The main challenge is the city's sprawl - you'll likely need a car to get between areas. Public transit is improving but still limited compared to European or Asian cities.
