Den Gamle By (The Old Town Museum)
Open-air museum with reconstructed historical Danish buildings. Kids can play in old shops, ride horses, and bake. Cobblestones but manageable paths.
Denmark · Updated May 2026
Aarhus is Denmark's second city - compact, modern, and incredibly family-friendly with Danish-level accessibility.
Planning your trip?
Aarhus is like a smaller, calmer Copenhagen and arguably even more family-friendly. The city center is compact and mostly flat (with some gentle hills near the forest). Danish culture means exceptional baby facilities, family-welcoming restaurants, and thoughtful urban design. The ARoS art museum, Den Gamle By (old town museum), and DOKK1 library are all excellent family destinations with full accessibility. The harbor area has been redeveloped with modern, family-oriented spaces. The Infinite Bridge art installation on the beach is flat and magical.
