Doable with planning: a tunnel, a lift and an outdoor escalator get you down to Albufeira's main beaches, but the town is built on cliffs and hills, so it's harder going with a stroller than flat Faro.
Planning your trip?
Albufeira is a cliff-top fishing town turned big resort, and that geography decides your stroller days. The good news is that the two town beaches are easy to reach without steps: a short tunnel next to the tourist office leads from the main square onto Praia do Túnel (Peneco), which also has a lift, and an outdoor escalator brings you down from the cliff-top to Praia dos Pescadores, where a large paved square sits at sand level. Away from that low point, the old town's lanes climb steeply, pavements are often bumpy Portuguese cobbles, and many hotels sit on the hills around town. The Strip and Oura are a separate area up the hill to the east, and public transport is limited to local buses and a train station 6 km out of town. Bring a compact stroller for the beachfront and the marina, plus a carrier for the hills; if you want flat, easy walking, Faro is the gentler Algarve base.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.
Where to stay
Stay near the main square and you're steps from the Peneco tunnel and the Pescadores beach without hills. Check the exact street: the old town climbs quickly and gets noisy late.
Newer, flatter and calmer than the old town, with apartments around the harbour. You'll want a bus or taxi for the main beaches.
Apartments and aparthotels with a pool and a kitchen are everywhere around Albufeira. Ask about lifts and steps, and look at how far uphill the building is.
With a stroller, the question isn't the distance to the beach but the gradient. The lower old town and the marina are flat; most other areas involve a climb.

Water park in Quarteira, about a 20-minute drive east, with an outdoor season from May. Little ones under 1 m go free.
Boat trips from Albufeira Marina along the golden cliffs towards Benagil. Choose a larger, slower boat for a baby and check the minimum age before booking.
Albufeira's main town beach, where fishing boats still come in. A large paved square sits at sand level, and an outdoor escalator connects it with the cliff-top.
A short tunnel next to the tourist office cuts through the cliff from the main square to the beach. There is also a lift, plus ramps and steps.
Modern marina west of the old town with pastel buildings, cafés and boat trips. Flat and calm, and a good spot for an evening stroll.
Use the tunnel, lift or escalator for the beach rather than the stepped lanes. Zoomarine is cheapest online on a fixed date; book boat trips for the calm morning sea.

Beyond the city
The Algarve's flat capital, with a marina, a walled old town and boat trips into the Ria Formosa lagoon. A much easier stroller day than Albufeira.
Portugal's largest marina, ringed by cafés and shops with a flat waterfront walk and beaches either side.
Historic town with a long riverside avenue and famous sea arches, best seen from a boat. The cliff-top paths are beautiful but not for wheels.
A hire car or a driver with a child seat makes day trips simple; the station is outside town and buses are slow. Faro is the easy, flat contrast to Albufeira's hills.
It depends — Albufeira scores 59/100. Doable with planning, but not effortless. Doable with planning: a tunnel, a lift and an outdoor escalator get you down to Albufeira's main beaches, but the town is built on cliffs and hills, so it's harder going with a stroller than flat Faro.
