Thailand · Updated May 2026
Bangkok is chaotic, hot, and tough on the streets - but malls are paradise and Thai people adore babies.
Planning your trip?
Bangkok is a tale of extremes for stroller parents. The streets are chaotic: broken sidewalks, street vendors blocking paths, no curb cuts, and intense traffic. But step inside any shopping mall and you're in stroller paradise - air-conditioned, smooth floors, baby rooms everywhere. The BTS Skytrain is accessible but getting to stations often involves stairs. Thai culture absolutely adores children and you'll receive constant warm attention. The heat and humidity are the biggest health challenges.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.
Things to do
Huge aquarium in the basement of Bangkok's fanciest mall. Glass-bottom boat ride, 4D cinema, and touch pools. Air-conditioned paradise when it's 35°C outside. Kids under 3 free.
Mini city where kids role-play jobs (doctor, pilot, firefighter). Ages 4-14. Inside Siam Paragon. Fully air-conditioned. Younger siblings can stroller around while older ones play.
Bangkok's Central Park. Flat paths, paddle boats, playground, and monitor lizards roaming free (kids love spotting them). Best before 9am when it's cooler. Free entry.
Bangkok's sidewalks are terrible for strollers (broken, blocked by vendors, no curb cuts). Use the BTS Skytrain + malls as your mobility network. Mall-hop between Siam Paragon, Central World, and Emporium — all connected by BTS.

Where to stay
The expat neighborhood. BTS connected, excellent malls (EmQuartier, Emporium), international restaurants, and supermarkets with baby supplies. Phrom Phong and Thong Lo areas are most family-friendly.
Beautiful river views, close to temples and cultural sights. Shangri-La and Anantara are great family picks. River taxi to malls. More atmospheric than Sukhumvit.
Bangkok serviced apartments are incredible value — full kitchen, pool, gym, weekly cleaning, often with playground. Sukhumvit soi 24 and 39 have the best family options.
Bangkok is cheap enough to upgrade. A 4-star hotel here costs what a 2-star costs in Europe. Spend the savings on a family room with pool access — swimming is the #1 way to cool down with kids.
Beyond the city
Amphawa is more authentic (weekends only). Boat rides through canals, fresh food cooked on boats. Not stroller-terrain but babies in carriers love the boat rides and colors.
UNESCO World Heritage ruins of the old Thai capital. Hire a tuk-tuk to hop between temples. Main temple grounds are flat enough for strollers. Less crowded and cheaper than Bangkok temples.
Drive-through safari park plus marine park with shows. Animals roam free while you drive past in an air-conditioned car. The marine park has stroller-friendly paths. Full day activity.
Thailand's trains are cheap but slow. For day trips, Grab (Thai Uber) or a private driver (฿2,000-3,000/day including car seat) is often better value for families and infinitely more comfortable with a baby.
It depends — Bangkok scores 54/100. Doable with planning, but not effortless. Bangkok is chaotic, hot, and tough on the streets - but malls are paradise and Thai people adore babies.
