Beijing's wide boulevards and modern metro handle strollers well, but ancient sites and crowds require planning.
Planning your trip?
Beijing is a city of wide boulevards designed for grandeur, which incidentally works well for strollers. The modern metro system is extensive and mostly accessible. The Forbidden City is flat but enormous and crowded. The Great Wall is obviously not stroller-friendly, but modern attractions like the Olympic Park are excellent. Hutong alleys are narrow but flat. Air quality is a concern - check daily. Chinese people are wonderful with children and will shower your baby with attention.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.

Magnificent Ming Dynasty temple complex in a huge park. Locals practice tai chi. Kids love the Echo Wall.
Giant pandas! The panda house is the highlight. Also has a good aquarium. Can be crowded on weekends.
Forbidden City tickets sell out days in advance — book on the official WeChat account or through your hotel. Check AQI and plan indoor activities on high-pollution days.

Where to stay
Walking distance to Forbidden City, Tiananmen, and Wangfujing shopping. The classic Beijing base.
Stay in a traditional courtyard home in the hutongs. Unique experience, though rooms tend to be small.
Modern dining and shopping district. International restaurants, Taikoo Li mall. More cosmopolitan feel.
Wangfujing is the most convenient base. Hutong hotels offer unique experience but check accessibility — many are historic buildings. Beijing metro is excellent and stroller-accessible.
Beyond the city
Best section for families — cable car up, toboggan down. Restored walls with guard towers. Less crowded than Badaling.
Imperial garden with Kunming Lake, Long Corridor, and marble boat. Rent a paddle boat. Beautiful in all seasons.
Iconic 2008 Olympic venues. Water Cube is now a water park — Happy Magic Water Cube. Kids love it.
Mutianyu is the family-friendly Great Wall choice — cable car avoids the stair climb. Go weekday, arrive before 9am. The toboggan down is a highlight.
Yes — Beijing scores 69/100 on our stroller scale. Beijing's wide boulevards and modern metro handle strollers well, but ancient sites and crowds require planning.
