Apartheid Museum
Powerful, world-class museum telling South Africa's story. Moving exhibits that older kids will learn from. Allow 2-3 hours.
South Africa · Updated May 2026
Johannesburg has modern malls and gated areas with great facilities, but walking with a stroller between them isn't practical.
Planning your trip?
Johannesburg is a city of contrasts for stroller users. Modern shopping malls (Sandton City, Rosebank), gated communities, and attractions like the Apartheid Museum have excellent, world-class facilities. However, the city is very car-dependent - walking between areas is impractical and sometimes unsafe. The Gautrain rapid transit connects key areas but coverage is limited. Within safe, modern precincts you'll have a good experience, but this is not a walkable city in the traditional sense.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.
