Sarajevo is nestled in a narrow valley with mountains on all sides, creating a unique topography that's tough for strollers. The old town (Baščaršija) has cobblestones and narrow Ottoman-era streets. The main pedestrian zone is decent, but much of the city has hills and uneven surfaces from war reconstruction. However, Bosnian hospitality is legendary - locals will go far out of their way to help families. The tram system is basic but functional.

What to book before your family trip

🏛️ Baščaršija — Ottoman Old Town

🚋 Sarajevo Tram — Historic Transit

💡 Tip: Sarajevo's main boulevard (Maršala Tita) is flat and leads from the modern city to the old town. The War Childhood Museum is small but powerful for older kids. Vrelo Bosne (spring of the River Bosnia) on the outskirts has beautiful flat paths through a park — Sarajevo's best stroller walk. Bosnia is very affordable for families.
