Parc de l'Orangerie
Strasbourg's best family space: mini zoo with storks and monkeys, a lake with rowing boats, massive playground, and flat paths throughout. Storks nest on the rooftops — kids love spotting them. Free except boat rental.

Strasbourg is flat, has an excellent tram system, and the canal-side paths in Petite France are lovely — just watch out for cobblestones in the old quarter.
Planning your trip?
Strasbourg is surprisingly stroller-friendly for a medieval city. It's flat (built on a river island), the modern tram system is fully accessible, and the canal-side walking paths are wide and smooth. The Petite France quarter has cobblestones and narrow streets, but the main tourist route is manageable. The real gem is the city's extensive park system — Parc de l'Orangerie has a zoo, playground, and lake. During the famous Christmas markets (late November to December), the old town becomes extremely crowded and stroller navigation is nearly impossible. French-Alsatian culture is family-friendly, and restaurants welcome children.

Things to do
Strasbourg's best family space: mini zoo with storks and monkeys, a lake with rowing boats, massive playground, and flat paths throughout. Storks nest on the rooftops — kids love spotting them. Free except boat rental.
Covered glass-top boats cruise through Petite France canals and past EU institutions. Strollers fold and store. Audio guides in multiple languages. 70 minutes of history without walking on cobblestones.
Interactive science museum designed for kids 3-15. Water play area (bring spare clothes), construction zone, nature area. Fully accessible. A guaranteed rainy-day winner.
The tram is your mobility backbone — Lines A and D connect all major areas. Buy a 24-hour CTS pass. During Christmas markets (late Nov-Dec), use a carrier instead of a stroller in the old town.

Where to stay
The UNESCO-listed island center puts you walking distance from everything. The tram crosses the island. Petite France is the most scenic area but the most touristy. Hotels here tend to be charming but compact.
Near the Parc de l'Orangerie and EU Parliament. Modern hotels with more space. Tram Line E connects to center in 10 minutes. Quieter and more residential — feels like living in Strasbourg rather than visiting.
Alsatian half-timbered apartments are gorgeous and spacious. A kitchen lets you enjoy local market produce (Marché de la Marne). Look in the Krutenau or Orangerie neighborhoods for the best value.
The European Quarter / Orangerie area offers the best family experience — close to the best park, modern hotels, and tram-connected to the center. Petite France hotels are charming but rooms are small and streets are crowded.
Beyond the city
Alsace's most photogenic town, 35 minutes by train. The canal-side Petite Venise area is flat and gorgeous. Less crowded than Strasbourg. Famous gingerbread and Alsatian pastries. Christmas market is magical but packed.
One of Europe's top theme parks, just across the German border. Excellent family areas with rides for all ages. Fully stroller-accessible with rental strollers available. Much less crowded on weekdays.
Colmar is an easy train ride and genuinely worth it — smaller, prettier, and less crowded than Strasbourg. Europa-Park is a full day commitment but one of Europe's best theme parks.
Yes — Strasbourg scores 73/100 on our stroller scale. Strasbourg is flat, has an excellent tram system, and the canal-side paths in Petite France are lovely — just watch out for cobblestones in the old quarter.
