Tromsø is the gateway to the Arctic and Norway's northern capital. The compact city center on an island is surprisingly manageable - relatively flat with decent sidewalks. The Arctic Cathedral across the bridge is iconic. Polaria aquarium and the Polar Museum are accessible. However, this is an Arctic city: winter means snow, ice, and polar night (no sun November-January), making strolling very challenging. Summer brings midnight sun and pleasant conditions. Norwegian culture is very family-friendly with excellent baby facilities. The Fjellheisen cable car is accessible and gives amazing views.
