Main Market Square (Rynek GÅ‚ówny)
Largest medieval square in Europe. Flat cobblestones (better than most!), street performers, flower market, and the famous Cloth Hall. Kids love the horse-drawn carriages.
Poland · Updated May 2026
Krakow's old town cobblestones are tough, but the city is flat beyond them and very affordable.
Planning your trip?
Krakow is a beautiful medieval city that's mostly flat - the challenge is the cobblestones in the Old Town and Kazimierz district. Once you get beyond the historic center, sidewalks improve significantly. The tram system is decent with low-floor vehicles on main routes. Krakow is very affordable compared to Western Europe, and Polish people warm up quickly and are helpful with families. Planty Park ringing the Old Town provides a green, mostly flat strolling circuit.

Important historical site, but consider carefully with young children. Minimum age 14 for the main tour. The grounds are accessible but emotionally heavy content.
