Dubrovnik is breathtakingly beautiful but presents real challenges for stroller parents. The UNESCO World Heritage old town has polished marble streets that are slippery, many steps, and gets extremely crowded with cruise ship passengers. However, the coastal areas, Lapad Peninsula, and modern parts of the city are much more stroller-friendly. Croatian hospitality is legendary, and locals will go out of their way to help families. The key is planning around the crowds and choosing your areas carefully.

Do NOT stay inside the old town walls with a stroller — the steps and narrow streets are a nightmare with baby gear. Lapad or Gruž are much more practical.

Beyond the city

Easy day trips

Summer ferries book out fast — reserve in advance. For families with strollers, Mljet is more manageable than other island day trips from Dubrovnik.

💡 Tip: The City Walls walk is NOT stroller-friendly — steep stairs, narrow passages, and no shade. Use a carrier and go early morning to beat the heat. Inside the Old Town, the Stradun (main street) is flat and smooth, but side streets are all stairs. The beach at Banje just outside the Ploče Gate is the easiest family beach near the old town.
