Alhambra & Generalife Gardens
Spain's most visited monument. Generalife gardens are stroller-doable; Nasrid Palaces need a carrier due to stairs. Book months ahead.
Spain · Updated May 2026
Granada rewards the persistent - Alhambra is magical but the city is seriously hilly.
Planning your trip?
Granada presents the classic Spanish dilemma: incredible Moorish heritage in a challenging medieval setting. The Alhambra is worth the effort but requires significant planning and a carrier. The Albayzín neighborhood is UNESCO-listed but completely inaccessible with strollers. Lower Granada is more manageable, and Spanish culture is wonderfully family-friendly. This city rewards flexible parents with unforgettable experiences.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.
Things to do
Spain's most visited monument. Generalife gardens are stroller-doable; Nasrid Palaces need a carrier due to stairs. Book months ahead.
The old Moorish quarter with the best Alhambra viewpoint. Very steep and cobblestoned — use a carrier, not a stroller.
Interactive science museum with a planetarium, butterfly house, and outdoor exhibits. Fully accessible, great for families.
Book Alhambra tickets at least 2 months in advance — they sell out. Morning Nasrid Palace slots are least crowded. Bring a carrier for the palace and stroller for the gardens.

Where to stay
Flat, pedestrianized center near restaurants, shops, and the Alhambra bus stop. The most stroller-friendly area.
Quieter neighborhood below the Alhambra. Good tapas bars, some hills but mostly manageable. More local feel.
Apartments near the center with patios and kitchens. Granada is affordable — apartments offer great value.
Avoid staying in the Albaicín with a stroller — it's beautiful but extremely steep. Centro/Plaza Nueva gives flat streets with easy Alhambra bus access.
Beyond the city
Mountain resort area with cable car rides in summer and snow in winter. Village area is stroller-manageable.
Stunning mountain villages with Moorish heritage. Winding roads but charming. Villages are small and walkable.
The Alpujarras are best with a rental car and older kids who can walk. For easier stroller day trips, the coast (Salobreña, Almuñécar) is only 45 min away.
Not really — Granada scores 47/100, and a baby carrier will save your sanity. Granada rewards the persistent - Alhambra is magical but the city is seriously hilly.
