Krabi, Thailand — stroller-friendliness guide for parents

Thailand · Updated October 2026

Is Krabi stroller-friendly?

It depends—bring both.

Half and half: a compact stroller works along Ao Nang's beachfront and in a flat resort, but Krabi's best bits (Railay and the islands) are reached by longtail boats you wade out to, so the carrier does a lot of the work.

Here's what worked for other parents in Krabi

Bring the stroller for
  • Ao Nang beachfront — flat road along the beach with restaurants, shops and sunset views
  • Nopparat Thara — long, quiet beach next to Ao Nang with shade trees and room to spread out
  • Klong Muang and Tubkaek resorts — big flat resort grounds and pools, away from the traffic
Use a carrier for
  • Railay — boat-only access with wet landings and sandy, bumpy paths between beaches
  • Ao Nang side roads — pavements disappear and the roads behind the beach climb steeply
  • Main road between Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara — patchy pavements and fast traffic at times

Krabi is two holidays in one, and only one of them suits wheels. On land, Ao Nang makes an easy base: the beachfront road is flat with a walkway along the sand, and the shops, restaurants and 7-Elevens are close together. Next door, Nopparat Thara is long, shady and quiet. Away from that strip, pavements come and go, the side roads climb into the hills, and you'll often be pushing on the road edge. The famous part is reached by water. Railay has no road at all: longtails leave from the beach and you wade out to board, often knee-deep, and the same again on arrival. Island tours mean more wet landings and more boat hours. Bring a light stroller for Ao Nang evenings and resort grounds, a good carrier for everything that floats, and a car-seat stroller or travel seat for the airport run, because taxis and Grab cars won't have one.

Where to stay

Neighborhoods that work for families

Best for families

Ao Nang (beachfront)

The practical base: walk to the beach, restaurants, minimarts and the Railay boats. Pick a hotel on or just behind the beachfront road; the hillside ones mean steep pushes every day.

Hotels from ~€25/nightFind stays →
Calm & flat

Nopparat Thara

Quieter and flatter neighbour of Ao Nang, with a long shady beach and lower prices. A few minutes by car to the Ao Nang strip.

Hotels from ~€25/nightFind stays →
Resort calm

Klong Muang & Tubkaek

Resort coast 20-30 minutes north of Ao Nang: big family resorts with flat grounds and pools on quiet beaches. Lovely for naps, but you'll need a taxi to get anywhere else.

Resorts from ~€60/nightFind stays →
Space & kitchen

Family apartments & pool villas

Apartments and villas with a kitchen and a separate bedroom for naps, mostly around Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara. Check the map: many are up the hill.

From ~€35/nightFind stays →

Skip Railay as a base with a baby: you'd carry every bag through the surf. Stay in Ao Nang or Nopparat Thara and visit Railay for the day.

Must-see

Railay & Phra Nang Beach

Krabi's most famous spot: white sand under huge limestone cliffs, with no road in. Longtails run from the east end of Ao Nang beach in about 10-15 minutes, leaving once enough passengers are aboard. A paved path links Railay East to Phra Nang.

Kid favourite

4 Islands longtail trip

Poda, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Phra Nang Cave beach in a half or full day. The stops have shallow water that suits small children; a private longtail lets you set your own pace and leave before nap time.

Free

Ao Nang beachfront

The heart of Ao Nang: a flat road and walkway along the beach, with longtails pulled up on the sand and restaurants facing the sunset. The easiest evening stroll in Krabi.

Nopparat Thara Beach

Long, quiet national park beach just west of Ao Nang, with shade trees behind the sand. At low tide the sea pulls far out and leaves shallow pools for paddling.

Krabi Town riverside

A level promenade along the Krabi River with views of the mangroves and limestone peaks, plus local markets in the evening. A nice change from the beach, 30 minutes from Ao Nang.

Tiger Cave Temple

Forest temple with a famous summit shrine at the top of more than 1,200 steps, and wild monkeys on the way. The base temple and caves are manageable; the climb is for one parent while the other stays below.

Do boat trips from November to April and go at 8-9am, before the tour boats and the heat. Leave the stroller at the hotel on boat days.

Quick answers

It depends — Krabi scores 53/100. Doable with planning, but not effortless. Half and half: a compact stroller works along Ao Nang's beachfront and in a flat resort, but Krabi's best bits (Railay and the islands) are reached by longtail boats you wade out to, so the carrier does a lot of the work.

Travel Essentials for Krabi with Kids

What to book before your family trip

🚐 Krabi airport transfer with a baby seat
›
Ao Nang is about 40 km from the airport. The airport bus and taxis won't have a car seat, so pre-book a private transfer that does, or bring your own seat.
Book ahead
🛶 4 Islands longtail trip
›
The gentlest island day from Ao Nang. Choose a private or early boat and a half-day option with a baby.
⛴️ Ferry to Phi Phi
›
Big ferries are steadier than speedboats with a baby on your lap.
💡 Tip: Grab works in Krabi and shows the fare upfront, but cars come without child seats. If you travel with a car-seat stroller, check the rear 3-point belt isn't tucked under the seat cover before you set off. Boat landings are wet: pack nappies and phones in a dry bag.
