Te Amo Beach & Donkey Sanctuary
Te Amo is calm and shallow near the airport. Then the Donkey Sanctuary where rescued donkeys roam free and kids can feed them.
Bonaire · Updated May 2026
Tiny Kralendijk is flat and uncrowded, but limited infrastructure means you need to plan ahead.
Planning your trip?
Kralendijk is Bonaire's small capital - more village than city. The waterfront boulevard is flat and pleasant for strolling, and you'll rarely encounter crowds. However, facilities are basic: few elevators, limited changing rooms, and essentially no public transit. The island is primarily a diving destination, so family infrastructure is minimal. What it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in peace, quiet, and incredibly friendly locals.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.

Bonaire is a diver's paradise but surprisingly great for families. Shore snorkeling is accessible everywhere. Rent a pickup truck; many roads are unpaved.

Where to stay

Quiet residential area near the airport with shore diving. Good value apartments and small resorts.
Many rentals with pools and ocean views. Own kitchen matters — dining out is limited and pricey. Pool is essential.

Beyond the city
Water taxi to pristine uninhabited island with white sand and turtle nesting beaches. No facilities at all — bring everything.
Striking pink salt pans, white salt mountains, and historic slave huts. Flamingos gather here. Surreal landscape.
Guided kayak through Lac Bay mangroves. Baby fish nurseries, rays, and flamingos. Calm water. Babies ride with parents.
Klein Bonaire is magical but bring shade, water, and sun protection. The island is tiny — drive the entire south in an afternoon.
It depends — Kralendijk scores 62/100. Doable with planning, but not effortless. Tiny Kralendijk is flat and uncrowded, but limited infrastructure means you need to plan ahead.
