Lekki Conservation Centre
Canopy walkway through mangrove forest — Africa's longest. Nature trails and a small zoo. Surprisingly peaceful escape from Lagos.
Nigeria · Updated May 2026
Lagos is Africa's largest city and incredibly vibrant, but the extreme congestion, poor infrastructure, and chaos make it very difficult for strollers.
Planning your trip?
Lagos is a megacity of 20+ million people and the energy is incredible. Nigerians are warm, family-oriented, and will shower attention on your baby. However, the city is extremely challenging for strollers. Traffic congestion is legendary (hours-long gridlock is normal), sidewalks barely exist, flooding is common, and crowds are intense. The exceptions are modern areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, and upscale malls (The Palms, Ikeja City Mall). These pockets of modernity offer flat, accessible environments. A carrier is essential for most Lagos exploration.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.

Quieter residential area with malls, restaurants, and the Conservation Centre. Modern serviced apartments available.
Upscale island neighborhood with tree-lined streets. Serviced apartments with generators, security, and kitchens.
Choose accommodation with reliable generators — power outages are common in Lagos. Victoria Island and Ikoyi have the best infrastructure. Verify security and water supply.
Beyond the city

Slave trade heritage sites, including the Point of No Return and the first two-story building in Nigeria. Educational.
Family resort with swimming pool, mini-zoo, and boat rides. Good infrastructure and shaded grounds.
Lagos traffic can turn a 30-minute drive into 3 hours. Leave very early for day trips (before 6am). Weekend traffic is lighter. Use Google Maps for live traffic.
Not really — Lagos scores 36/100, and a baby carrier will save your sanity. Lagos is Africa's largest city and incredibly vibrant, but the extreme congestion, poor infrastructure, and chaos make it very difficult for strollers.
