Maputo has a faded colonial elegance and vibrant African energy. The Marginal (waterfront promenade) is the best stroller area - flat and maintained. The Baixa (downtown) has wide streets from the Portuguese era but sidewalks are crumbling. The city slopes gently toward the sea. Chapas (minibuses) are the main transit but impossible with strollers. Mozambicans are warm and children are celebrated in the culture.
