Chinggis Khaan (Sükhbaatar) Square
Grand central square with the Parliament and Chinggis Khan statue.
Mongolia · Updated May 2026
A rapidly modernizing city between steppe and mountains - improving but still challenging for strollers.
Planning your trip?
Ulaanbaatar is a fascinating contradiction: a modern city rising from the steppe with Soviet-era bones and nomadic soul. The central area around Sükhbaatar Square is fairly flat and walkable. Peace Avenue is the main artery with decent sidewalks. However, the ger (yurt) districts on the hills lack any infrastructure, traffic is congested, and winter conditions (-30°C) make stroller use impossible for months. The city is rapidly developing, with new malls and parks improving family accessibility.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.
