Prague is a stunning city that presents real challenges for stroller parents. The entire historic center is paved with rounded, uneven cobblestones that rattle strollers mercilessly. The castle district sits on a steep hill. Trams are the main transit and newer models are low-floor, but older ones require lifting. Czech people are reserved but will help if asked. Consider a carrier for Old Town exploration days.

Consistently ranked among the world's best zoos. Huge but well-organized with stroller-friendly paths. Chairlift over the zoo is fun. The Indonesian jungle pavilion is incredible on rainy days.

Prague's cobblestones are brutal — air-filled tires or suspension are essential. Consider spending mornings in the cobbled Old Town (with carrier) and afternoons at the zoo or parks (with stroller).

Where to stay

Neighborhoods that work for families

Best for strollers

Vinohrady

Residential neighborhood with wide streets, parks, cafés, and zero tourists. 10 min by metro to Old Town. The most livable neighborhood in Prague — locals love it.

Charming

Malá Strana (Lesser Town)

Below the castle, along the river. Charming and less crowded than Old Town. Some cobblestones but flatter than the castle hill. Beautiful Kampa Park nearby.

Great value

Family Apartments in Prague

Czech prices mean you can afford much more space here than Western Europe. A 2-bedroom apartment in Vinohrady costs what a small hotel room does in Paris.

Apartments from €60/nightFind stays →

Avoid staying in the Old Town Square area — overpriced, overcrowded, and the cobblestones make every trip outside your hotel exhausting. Vinohrady is 2 metro stops away and a different world.
