Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt — stroller-friendliness guide for parents

Egypt · Updated October 2026

Is Sharm el-Sheikh stroller-friendly?

It depends—bring both.

Sharm el-Sheikh is doable with a stroller if you stay in Naama Bay or Nabq Bay, where the seafront is flat. Many hotels in Sharks Bay and Ras Um Sid sit on cliffs with long staircases down to the sea, and between areas you'll need a taxi.

Here's what worked for other parents in Sharm el-Sheikh

Bring the stroller for
  • Naama Bay promenade — flat, palm-lined, car-free walk of about 1.3 km along a calm, sandy bay
  • Nabq Bay — large flat resorts linked by a seafront path, with shallow sandy entry at many hotels
  • Old Market and Al Sahaba Mosque square — renovated paving, a big fountain and cafés
Use a carrier for
  • Sharks Bay hotels — many are terraced down to the sea with lots of steps
  • Ras Um Sid and Hadaba cliffs — steep approaches and stairs to the reef beaches
  • Peace Road and the main highway — fast traffic, long distances and little shade

Which part of Sharm you stay in matters more than anything else. Naama Bay has a level, palm-lined pedestrian promenade of about 1.3 km with cafés and a calm, sandy swimming bay, and Nabq Bay's big resorts are linked by a flat seafront path. Sharks Bay and Ras Um Sid are famous for their reefs, but many hotels there are terraced down a cliff, with steps or long ramps to the beach and jetties over the coral. Between areas you take a taxi, an Uber or a hotel shuttle, because the main road is fast and not pleasant to walk along. The Old Market and SOHO Square make easy evening outings with a stroller. From October to April the weather is warm and dry; July highs are around 37–38 °C.

Where to stay

Neighborhoods that work for families

Best for families

Nabq Bay

The newer resort area north of the airport: big, flat all-inclusive hotels joined by a seafront path, many with a sandy, shallow way into the water. It's quiet in the evenings, and Naama Bay and SOHO are a short taxi ride away.

Most walkable

Naama Bay

The only part of Sharm where you can walk out of the hotel and stroll: a flat promenade, a calm, sandy bay and restaurants on the doorstep. It's busier and noisier at night, so ask for a room away from the bars.

Space & kitchen

Family apartments

Apartments in resort compounds come with a kitchen and a shared pool, good for longer stays. Check the distance to a sandy beach and whether there are stairs.

Before you book, look at the hotel's beach photos and site map. With a stroller you want a flat site and a sandy bay; a cliff-top hotel with a pontoon over the reef will mean a lot of carrying.

Naama Bay promenade

Sharm's main seafront: a palm-lined, lit pedestrian walk of about 1.3 km behind a calm, sandy bay, with cafés all the way along. It's best in the late afternoon. Hotels own most of the beach, but there are pay-per-day beach clubs.

Old Market and Al Sahaba Mosque

Old Sharm's market streets were refreshed when the grand Al Sahaba Mosque was built, and now have polished paving, a large fountain and plenty of cafés. Go after dark when it's cooler. Prices are for haggling.

SOHO Square

An open-air entertainment complex near Sharks Bay with a dancing fountain show in the evening, a kids' zone with ball pit and slides, an ice rink, bowling and lots of restaurants. It's free to walk around and you pay for the activities.

Glass-bottom boat or semi-submarine

Watch the coral and fish through underwater windows on a short trip from Naama Bay or your hotel jetty. It's the easiest way to show a toddler the reef. Book through your hotel or a well-reviewed operator.

Spend the middle of the day at the pool and go out in the evenings, when Naama Bay, the Old Market and SOHO Square come to life. Uber works here, but bring your own car seat.
