Hurghada, Egypt — stroller-friendliness guide for parents

Egypt · Updated October 2026

Is Hurghada stroller-friendly?

It depends—bring both.

Hurghada is flat and built around big family resorts, so a stroller is fine inside your hotel, along the marina and on the long promenades in El Gouna and Sahl Hasheesh, but the city streets in between are for taxis, not walking.

Here's what worked for other parents in Hurghada

Bring the stroller for
  • El Gouna — gated resort town with quiet roads, pavements and a marina loop you can walk
  • Hurghada Marina — paved, well-lit waterfront promenade with cafés and room to roam
  • Sahl Hasheesh promenade — long, flat seafront walk linking the resorts and the piazza
Use a carrier for
  • El Dahar old town — narrow, dusty streets with broken kerbs and constant sales pitches
  • Sheraton Road and the main resort strip — fast traffic, patchy pavements and few safe crossings
  • Downtown El Gouna and Kafr El Gouna — attractive, but the cobbles and alleys rattle a stroller

Hurghada is easy with a baby as long as you choose the right base. The coast is completely flat. El Gouna, a gated resort town 20 km north, has quiet roads with pavements and a marina you can walk around in about half an hour, and Sahl Hasheesh to the south has a long seafront promenade. In Hurghada itself, the marina is the one place made for a stroll. The resort strip and the old town of El Dahar have busy roads, broken kerbs and pushy touts, so most families take an Uber or a hotel taxi between places. There are no free public beaches, so you either use your hotel's beach or pay to get into a beach club. Bring a light stroller for the hotel and the promenades, and a carrier for boats, sand and the bazaar. From October to April it's warm and comfortable, though windy in mid-winter; July and August reach around 37 °C.

Where to stay

Neighborhoods that work for families

Best for families

El Gouna

The most stroller-friendly base on the Red Sea: a self-contained lagoon town with quiet roads, pavements, tuk-tuks and shuttle buses, calm shallow beaches and a marina full of restaurants. Pricier than Hurghada and about 30 minutes from the airport.

Best promenade

Sahl Hasheesh

A planned resort bay south of Hurghada with a long, flat promenade connecting the hotels, a small piazza with cafés, and quieter evenings than the city.

All-inclusive value

Makadi Bay

A strip of big all-inclusive resorts around a sheltered bay with shallow, calm water. Not much outside the hotel gates, but huge flat grounds, kids' pools and water slides.

Family apartments

Apartments in El Gouna and the newer compounds come with a kitchen and often a shared pool. Handy for longer stays, but check how far it is to the beach and whether the pool is fenced.

With a stroller, El Gouna or Sahl Hasheesh beat a hotel on Hurghada's main road. Look at the beach in photos before you book: you want a sandy, gradual entry, not a jetty over the reef.

Hurghada Marina promenade

Hurghada's tidiest walk: a paved, well-lit waterfront lined with cafés and moored yachts, and calmer than the streets around it. Come in the late afternoon for sea breezes and the sunset.

Sahl Hasheesh promenade and pier

A long, flat promenade runs along the Sahl Hasheesh resort coast to a lantern-lit piazza and a 400 m pier over the reef. It's quiet and spacious, perfect for an evening push.

Hurghada Grand Aquarium

A big walk-through aquarium on the Magawish road with sharks, rays and green turtles. Allow about two hours. It's a good choice on a windy or very hot day. Single strollers are fine, but twin prams aren't allowed in.

Reef without snorkelling

Glass-bottom boat or semi-submarine

Short trips over the coral where you watch the fish through windows below the waterline. They suit babies and non-swimmers better than a full snorkelling day. Book through your hotel or a well-reviewed operator.

Plan walks for early morning and from late afternoon, and spend the middle of the day at the pool. Uber works in Hurghada and saves haggling, but bring your own car seat.
