Bring the stroller for
  • Aura River promenade — Flat, wide, cafes and restaurant boats
  • Market Square (Kauppatori) — Open, accessible, central
  • Turku Cathedral park — Flat green space, benches, shade
Use a carrier for
  • Turku Castle cobblestone courtyard — Bumpy, tough on small wheels
  • Luostarinmäki area — Historic gravel paths, uneven ground
  • Port area — Industrial, not pedestrian-friendly

Finland's oldest city wraps around the Aura River, and the riverside promenade is one of the most pleasant stroller walks in the country. The city centre is flat and compact, with most family attractions within walking distance. Turku Castle and the cathedral area have some cobblestones, but the modern parts of the city are smooth and accessible. As a smaller city, crowding is rarely an issue — even in summer when the riverside restaurant boats draw visitors. Finnish family amenities are excellent, and locals are genuinely warm toward families. The archipelago ferry to Ruissalo island is a highlight and fully stroller-accessible.
