Delhi is incredibly challenging - amazing culture and people who adore children, but infrastructure is tough.
Planning your trip?
New Delhi presents the ultimate stroller challenge while offering incredible cultural rewards. Infrastructure varies wildly - New Delhi areas are better than Old Delhi. Air quality, crowds, traffic chaos, and limited accessibility make this extremely difficult. However, Indian culture absolutely worships children, and you'll find help everywhere. This requires maximum flexibility and carrier-only planning.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.
Things to do
Stunning Mughal architecture and beautifully maintained gardens. Flat paths throughout, well-shaded. Often less crowded than Taj Mahal.
Outdoor museum with real trains kids can climb on, toy train rides, and indoor galleries. One of the best family attractions in Delhi.
Beautiful green space with 15th-century tombs scattered through manicured gardens. Joggers, families, and peacocks. Free and peaceful.
Delhi air quality varies — check AQI before outdoor plans. October-March is best season. Auto-rickshaws are fun but not stroller-compatible; use Uber/Ola for ease with baby gear.

Where to stay
Modern hotels with international standards, pools, and clean air. Perfect for layovers or as a base with Uber access to all sights. Surprisingly pleasant.
Tree-lined streets, parks, upscale restaurants. Hauz Khas has a beautiful lake and deer park. Most livable part of Delhi for families.
Residential neighborhoods with markets, parks and local life. Kitchen for baby food prep. Much more space than hotels at same price.
Delhi is vast — location matters enormously. Aerocity for comfort, South Delhi for charm. Avoid Old Delhi hotels unless you want maximum chaos (which can be amazing, just not restful).
Beyond the city
The icon. 3-hour drive or express train. Gardens are stroller-friendly but the main mausoleum requires shoe covers and has stairs. Go at sunrise.
Pink City palaces and forts. Long day but doable. Amber Fort is stunning but steep — carrier needed. City Palace is stroller-OK.
Heritage hotel built into a 15th-century fort. Day visitors welcome for lunch and zip-lining. Pool, gardens, and incredible views. Great family escape from Delhi.
Gatimaan Express to Agra is the fastest train — book early. Private car with driver is often cheaper than you'd expect and infinitely easier with car seats and stroller.
Not really — New Delhi scores 41/100, and a baby carrier will save your sanity. Delhi is incredibly challenging - amazing culture and people who adore children, but infrastructure is tough.
